Interior designer, interior architect or decorator: which professional do you need for your project in Luxembourg?
What is the difference between an interior architect and an interior designer? This question often arises among people who are uncertain about the specific tasks these professionals perform.
Many clients hesitate about who to hire or how to correctly refer to these design experts in the field of interior planning.
Architect & Interior designer
The title of Architect & Interior designer (interior architect) should be reserved for professionals who have completed specific university training, ideally lasting five years. These programs were created to recognize the professionalism of interior designers with a broader range of skills. These skills enable them to manage a complete project, from concept to completion, either independently or in collaboration with a traditional architect.
Interior architects have completed a course of study that gives them a thorough understanding of new construction and renovation projects. Their work encompasses spatial planning, structural and technical aspects of a building. All this, in addition to the aesthetic design of interiors.
Interior decorator
An interior decorator can work independently or assist an architect’s work with the finishing touches: choosing paint colors, window treatments, selecting furniture and accessories. By focusing on this specialization, decorators have excellent knowledge of the products that finalize an overall project.
An interior decorator guides the client in their choices according to stylistic trends and personal requirements for the layout of a space (colors, materials, fabrics).
What you need to know
The title of interior designer is not a protected title. Anyone offering a service related to the design of enclosed spaces can call themselves one.
An interior designer or decorator can define themselves as such even after completing a simple course on the subject. An interior architect can therefore perform the work of an interior decorator, but the reverse is not true. An interior decorator does not possess the technical and structural skills of an architect. The training of an interior architect therefore cannot be compared to that of an interior decorator
